The Best Sniper Class in Black Ops 2
I am an avid "Call of Duty" player who loves to share my personal experience to aid fellow players.
Black Ops 2 Sniping
Black Ops 2 is the latest Call of Duty game to hit our shelves, and as such, it has brought a swarm of players from the older games to try to learn this one. The game (as of 03/04/2013) has now been available for around 4-5 months now, and people are certainly beginning to get the hang of how the game works and how the different guns perform. However, there is still a rather significant amount of confusion regarding sniping and how a sniper on Black Ops 2 performs differently to a sniper on one of the Call of Duty predecessors such as Modern Warfare 2.
This article will be a beginner to intermediate guide on how to be an effective Black Ops 2 sniper, as well as some tips on how you can get on target quicker or be more accurate when shooting.
One of the core things to bear in mind is that these tips will slightly vary between players, and nothing is completely set in stone when it comes to this game. Especially, when Treyarch constantly change how some of the guns perform, and how some of the other perks and score-streaks perform.
Set Up a Good Sniping Class
One of the most important things that you need to do when you are trying to become a better sniper in Black Ops 2 is to make sure that the class setup you've created supports your style of sniping.
For instance, if you are what is known as a "Camping sniper" who sits at the back of the map and hard-scopes his enemies, then you will obviously want to use a sniper rifle with a silencer as well as a set of perks that will aid you in being as silent as possible.
My personal recommendation would be that you always have these perks with each of your sniping classes. (If you are a more laid back sniper.)
- Ghost/Blind eye
- Cold Blooded
- Dead Silence/Tactical Mask
These perks will not only ensure that you are well hidden from any of the enemy players who may be looking for you, but it also helps you when you are in the enemy's spawn trying to get a high score-streak.
Remember: Enemies will typically look at the mini-map for any red dots when trying to locate you, so if you are both silent and not on the mini-map, you can be certain to remain hidden.
On the other side of the spectrum is creating a good "Slow Scoping" sniper class. Of course, the weapon will most likely stay the same, but in terms of attachments and perks, there are some significant changes.
For instance, since the enemies are going to be able to see you anyway, you do not need the hiding perks such as Blind eye or Dead silence. Instead, you are going to want to apply the following perks to make sure that you can react quickly to enemy fire, and of course, being able to get on target as quickly as possible.
- Light Weight
- Toughness/Scavenger
- Dexterity/Extreme conditioning/Engineer
As you can clearly see, these perks are more suited towards the player being on the move quite a lot, and of course trying to react as quickly as possible. The key perk here is Dexterity, which allows the player to pull up their weapon quicker when sprinting.

With the perks Light Weight (run faster) and Extreme Conditioning (run for longer) also attached, you can see why it is vital that you have this perk to counter the fact that you will be moving rather quickly around the map.
Align the Centre of Your Cross-Hairs to Your Enemy
If you are more of an aggressive sniper who gets right up in the enemy's face and dominates the game, you are going to want to reduce the amount of time that it takes you to fire an accurate shot on the enemy. The best way to make sure that each of your shots is quick and perfectly accurate is to always align the centre of your cross-hairs on the enemy first before even pulling up your scope.
You will notice that Black Ops 2 seems to have a set of sniper rifles that take significantly more time to zoom in than that of any of the older Call of Duty games. If you were to compare the time it takes for the DSR-50 to zoom in, to the time it takes for the Intervention to zoom in, you could say that the DSR-50 is almost as quick as watching paint dry.
For this reason, to make sure that to reduce the amount of time it takes for you to fire a successful shot, you must align your cross-hairs first, and then figure out the exact point at which you can fire an accurate shot.
Of course, for those of you who are experienced snipers in the previous Call of Duty games, you will know this as "Quick Scoping". However, the same name cannot be applied to Black Ops 2, as it simply takes far too long for each accurate shot to be taken. So to make it fair we shall refer to Black Ops 2 sniping as "Slow Scoping".
Practise! Practise! Practise!
Of course, with almost everything, the only way to truly get better is to practise as much as you can,. Without practise, you may never become a great sniper and whilst in the beginning it will definitely be a very tedious task, it does get far better once you get the hang of it.
My best advice is to find a sniper rifle that you seem to do best with and then practise with it as much as you can. To start, I would recommend that you use the Ballista or the DSR-50 as these are the two bolt action snipers in Black Ops 2 that seem to perform the best.
Although, with that being said if you would rather snipe with a semi-automatic sniper rifle you may want to look in the direction of the XPR-50. This is one of the highest damage sniper rifles and certainly shows it as an enemy will be dead in a maximum of two shots from any distance on the map.
Good slow scoping class on February 25, 2020:
A good slow scoping class that I am verry comfortable with ( and that other people can use) is:
Primary: Ballista with Iron Sights, Fast Mag, and FMJ ( you wil need Primary Gunfire wildcard to use this)
Secondary: Executioner with Dual Weild
Perks: ( Perk 1 ) Lightwight, ( Perk 2 ) Scavenger, ( Perk 3 ) Extreme conditioning.
Lethal and / or tacticle : None because of how OP the Dual Wield Executioner is.
